Gil Cuerva, Fipino with Spanish ancestry, will portray Matteo Do in the Philippine remake of My Love from the Star, a South Korean original TV show that was also previously shown in a GMA Network timeslot.
Cuerva will be partnered with Jennylyn Mercado, who will play Steffi Cheon.
Previously, Richard Juan, Ken Chan, Lharby Policarpio, Ken Alfonso, and Jake Ejercito were also considered to the alien who landed on earth. They finally chose Gile Cuerva.
Accordingly, Alden Richards was the original choice for the role but an upcoming AlDub project (with Maine Mendoza, naturally) required the production team to make changes.
